SeaFam, SIMS Training Center, and TESDA Empower Seafarers’ Wives with Skills and Entrepreneurial Training

In an inspiring event aimed at equipping seafarers’ wives with valuable skills and an entrepreneurial mindset, SeaFam, in partnership with SIMS Training Center and TESDA, hosted an empowering afternoon of learning. The event, which gathered wives from CF Sharp Crew Management Inc. and Hartman Crew Philippines, sought to enhance their personal growth and open up new opportunities for financial independence and self-empowerment.

The day kicked off with a transformative session on Entrepreneurship Mindset-Setting led by the esteemed Vladimir Jarilla. His talk emphasized the importance of adopting an entrepreneurial mindset, particularly for seafarers’ wives, who often shoulder the responsibility of managing the household while their husbands are away. Jarilla’s session underscored the power of creativity, problem-solving, and adaptability in entrepreneurship, key traits that can help these women navigate the complexities of both business and family life.

Jarilla stressed that an entrepreneurial mindset isn’t just about starting a business—it’s about cultivating a proactive approach to life’s challenges, turning obstacles into opportunities. For the participants, many of whom have spent years managing households with limited resources, this mindset represents a crucial shift. By embracing the entrepreneurial spirit, these women can explore ways to generate income, take charge of their financial future, and support their families in new ways.

Following the motivational talk, the participants got hands-on with Baking 101, a practical skills training session led by Chef Leandro Serador. The class offered an engaging introduction to the art and science of baking, teaching the participants the fundamentals of creating delicious baked goods. From measuring ingredients to mastering basic techniques, the participants were given the tools to not only bake for their families but also consider baking as a potential business venture. Chef Serador highlighted how baking can be a stepping stone for entrepreneurship, allowing them to turn their newfound skills into a small home-based business.

The energy in the room was electric, with participants excitedly working alongside one another, applying the lessons they had learned. For many, this was their first step towards exploring a new skill that could not only enrich their personal lives but also open doors to financial opportunities.

At the end of the day, each participant was awarded a certificate of completion, a testament to their dedication and commitment to learning. The certificate also represented a new beginning for many, symbolizing their readiness to take on new challenges and embrace entrepreneurship.

This afternoon was more than just a training session—it was a celebration of the resilience, creativity, and potential of seafarers’ wives. The event empowered them with the tools and mindset to explore new avenues for personal and financial growth, providing them with the confidence to take their first steps towards entrepreneurship.
